Flying from La Paz, Bolivia, to Iquique, Chile
The flight gave me an evening view of some of the extremely rugged highlands between Chile and Bolivia. Taking a train from La Paz to Uyuni, presents the opportunity to visit these highlands up close. There are outfitters in Uyuni that run 4x4 Toyota trucks or SUVs from there through the great salt plane and then on into Chile (San Pedro) from where one can catch a flight to Santiago. Again, 3.5 months for all of South America is less time than you think and much is simply not doable in that short time. I did the best I could, as far as I was concerned. Anything further would have to be done on a revisit. Meanwhile, for the remaining daylight, here are a few shots that give an idea of what it might be like to travel overland. |
A little wider view done with my Samsung 10.5 tablet. |
We can definitely see water in the distance, however, if it is salty or fresh is hard to tell from here. I assume that spring run-off will fill part of the dry basin we see here. |
By now the sun was setting rapidly and shortly thereafter we were descending into the darkness of the coastal city of Iquique, Chile. |
